Back-to-School Bible Study + August Family Devotional Calendar

31 Jul

back-to-school bible study

UPDATE: I am pressing pause on the resource community as I work full-time while studying for my Masters of Education. I am so grateful for those who have trusted us to provide faith-growing tools for their families. You can now find access to all of our past family devotionals and calendars in the Family Faith Toolkit (no password needed). Read more about my reason for this pause HERE.

Our August Family Devotional Calendar released today! And I am thrilled to announce our back-to-school Bible study – The Popularity Principle: An 8-Week Family Bible Study on Growing a God Reputation. We’ll be digging into Proverbs 3:3-4 in August and September as we prepare our kids for a new year full of exciting adventures and rich relationships.

Keep reading for more information about this new study, how to gain access to our new Family Faith Toolkit + a special announcement about our updated Bible study format.

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will win favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. Proverbs 3:3-4 NLT

The Popularity Principle Back-to-School Bible Study

Whether we send our kids out into the world of public or private school or we have the privilege of teaching them at home, our children can successfully navigate the relationships they encounter on a daily basis with God’s measuring stick as their guide.

Our need to be significant and liked is at the core of who we are, whether we are 3 or 43. When I was in my twenties, Proverbs 3:3-4 became my life verse as I grappled with the desire to be known and loved.

While it shouldn’t be our goal to be “popular”, this verse taught me the secret to being liked and admired by God’s standards. It’s a promise of relational prosperity that focuses our attention on the means (good character) not the end (popularity). Popularity will come and go but a good God reputation lasts a lifetime.

Ever since God revealed this verse to me, I’ve dreamed about sharing my discovery with kids so they might come to understand this relationship-changing truth much earlier than I did. In their relationship with God, family, friends, and leaders, our kids can grow a wildly popular, good, and Godly reputation by following the instructions found in this verse.

So over the next two months, we’re going to dig into what it means to carry loyalty and kindness with us wherever we go in order to grow a God reputation. Follow along with the simple theme and verse prompt in our Family Devotional Calendar (FDC) and use our free seasonal family devotional – The Popularity Principle – for a more in-depth (yet still simple!) study of the verse.

The Gather & Grow Family Faith Toolkit

Starting now, all Gather & Grow visitors will get access to our Family Faith Toolkit (no password needed) where you’ll find all past FDCs, as well as our seasonal Bible studies and devotionals. It’s your family’s own, personal toolbox of resources for cultivating faith at home!

It is my passion to provide simple faith tools for busy families. Yet I know it can be challenging to create resources that can be used by families with kids of varying ages. What works for a 3 year old just simply doesn’t work for a child age 13+. And while I hope and pray our older kids learn to lead their younger siblings, I want the tools we provide here to meet them where they are right now.

That’s the heart behind Rooted: Bible Studies for Growing Up Kids. Our Rooted studies will look a lot like what you’ve found here at Gather & Grow with a few, simple updates. Bible studies and devotionals will be written primarily with kids age 6-10 in mind but will include study extensions for older ones age 10+ (Dig Deeper) and little ones age 3-6 (Seeds of Character). Our hope is that this new format will meet the unique needs of every member of your family.

I hope you and your family will join us this back-to-school season to learn what it means to live our relationships by God’s standards and grow a reputation that brings honor to him!

xoxo,
