A Prayer for Moms in Survival Mode

Prayer for Moms in Survival Mode

Any mamas out there feel stuck in survival mode? I see that hand.

I, too, am more familiar with this place than I would like to be. The never-ending cycle of mothering tasks can be enough to make you certifiably crazy, even on a good day! Laundry, dishes, and cooking are my trifecta, and when I pile on anything else {other miscellaneous cleaning, grocery shopping, kids’ projects and activities, not to mention any side projects of my own or a really bad PMS day} I find myself spluttering and choking as the rip current of life pulls me under.

Before kids, I was comfortable being a high-producing, high-success-rate achiever; but at this phase in my life, I’m happy if my people have clean underwear and recently-ish brushed teeth. Survival mode, y’all.

For most of us, the end of this phase is nowhere in sight. But there is good news – we can find grace and help when we connect with God through prayer. Taking steps forward through this difficult place are much easier when you walk them with your Best Friend.

If you are fighting to keep your head above water, maybe you want to pray along with me.

A Prayer for Moms in Survival Mode

Hi, God. It’s me, crawling to You again. Thank You for being my safe place. Thank You for always greeting me with open arms and kind eyes. It comforts me that You know me so well.

I have nothing new to report—I’m just tired. Drowning. Over it. Can you fill me up again? Can you help me, Lord?

The tasks laid out for me are too much, and I am overwhelmed! I want to curl up in a ball and go to sleep forever! But I find my strength in You. You are my light and my salvation. You are my stronghold. You sustain me, even through the darkest of nights.

Let the warm wave of your love wash over me and bring peace to my care-worn heart. I lay all of my heaviness down at Your feet—take it from me, Lord. And I will gladly trade it for Your yoke that is easy and Your burden that is light. Empower me to be the mom You made me to be. Give me wisdom and strategy for accomplishing the necessary work laid out for me today. Fill me with Your compassion and grace for my people at home, and mother them through me.

You are a good God, a good Father and a very good Friend. I love You. I desperately need You every moment. And I thank You, with all my heart, that You are always there for me.

Now, just breathe, and take a few minutes to listen. What is God whispering to your heart? Rest assured, as you open your heart and ask Him to fill you up, He certainly will.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 NKJV

We will live to see another day, mamas! And we will do it in the strength and grace we receive from our amazing heavenly Father. He will lift you out from under the waves that have been pounding you, and teach you how to ride them instead.

Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. Isaiah 43:1b-2 NKJV

Are you stuck in survival mode? What desperate words have you prayed to the Father in this season? How is he encouraging your heart?
