I have thoroughly enjoyed the grace-based conversations that happened this past month in this space about every form of schooling. Whether you send your child to public school, teach them in your home or partner with a private school in your area, we all require the same level of grace to ensure our children are receiving the best education possible. Because we know prayer should be the foundation of every school year, we thought we’d share some of our personal back to school prayers with you. We hope these will encourage you to pray daily over your child as they embark on the adventure of learning.
You can also download printable versions of these prayers here including a blank card to write your own back to school prayer.
More than anything, we pray your school year will be peaceful and fruitful.
A Homeschool Prayer {via Kristy Chowning}
Lord,
Thank you for this opportunity to be together with my child to learn about you and your creation.
Let our time be glorifying to you and encouraging to each other. Help us to practice patience and love with one another.
Give us ears to listen, a mind to understand, and a spirit to discern.
Lead us to a revelation of what you would like us to learn today. We commit our day to you and ask that you lead and guide us through our time of learning and growing together.
In Jesus Name, Amen
A Private School Prayer {via Dr. Heather Rupe}
Lord,
Thank you for the gift of my child.
Help him today to show your love to those around him. Do not let him be overly sheltered by the bubble of private school, but instead to have a tender heart for the lost and hurting in this world.
The Bible says in James 1:5 that “if you need wisdom, ask God and He will give it to you.” I ask for wisdom for myself and for his teachers, that we may both know the best way to teach him. I pray for the leadership of the school, that they too would walk in wisdom and grace.
I pray 1 Corinthians 2:16 “that he has the mind of Christ.” I ask not only that he learn the essentials of academics but how to apply them to life.
I ask that the Joy of the Lord would be my son’s strength in all he does.
Prov. 27:17 says “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” I pray that he will have high quality Godly friends in his life that sharpen him into a better person.
I pray for your protection around the school, students and teachers. Thank you for the blessing of education.
In Jesus name, Amen
A Public School Prayer {via Jessica Wolstenholm}
Lord,
Thank you for the gift of education. As I send my child out into the world today, I know that you go before her. I ask for your presence to be her protection from all harm, both physically and emotionally.
Thank you for the teachers and administrators who have made it their life’s work to enlighten the minds of children. May they have wisdom and strength to succeed in this task daily. I pray financial blessing for our school – that they would have every resource they need to flourish this year.
Open my child’s mind to learning and her heart to understanding as she encounters new information and ideas daily. May she not become overwhelmed but rather delight in new experiences. Give her teacher eyes to see her needs and the needs of every child in the class. Grant her great grace to meet those needs today.
I ask for you to surround my child with good friends and encouraging classmates. May she be a blessing and a source of hope to those she comes in contact with.
God, I know that my child’s education is a partnership between our family and the school. I pray for unity and peace as together, we work to build up my child in knowledge and confidence.
Thank you for providing us a wonderful, public education.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
