“Joy is the absence of fear.”
Our guest minister this morning Dr. Darryl DelHousaye made this statement, almost as an aside during his sermon on wisdom and contentment. All over the service light bulbs went off, as nearly every person in the room grabbed their pen to write down this simple yet profound truth.
On the drive home I thought about how this statement truly summarizes our goal for this community. As Jess and I wrote these books, our purpose was to give you accurate facts but also to help build your faith through the scriptures. To empower you have the most peaceful, joyful pregnancy possible. To fight fear with medical facts and the wisdom of the Word.
So many women that I see on a daily basis struggle with the voices of fear. As I answer their questions and address their concerns I observe the physical tension drain from their bodies as they sigh with relief and begin to relax. “You mean my baby will be fine even though I ate that lunch meat last week? Oh, thank goodness, I’ve been worried sick!” I’m happy to reassure them, but grieved that they’ve wasted their precious time worrying about minor issues.
Others don’t ask, they simply listen to the inner voice of fear that tells them lies:
“You can’t do this.”
“The miscarriage was your fault.”
“You won’t be a good enough mom.”
“There is going to be something wrong with my baby.”
“You’ll never get pregnant.”
These are not the voices of truth and peace. If you are consumed with fear today, I ask you to visit our post on scriptures in pregnancy. Print it out and carry it with you.
Practice contentment by being continually thankful for each day and each gift from the Lord. Thankfulness is another awesome tool against fear.
If joy is the absence of fear, then my prayer for each of you is to have amazingly joyful pregnancies.
What fears are you struggling with this pregnancy?
{This will be my last post in this space. I think this topic incredibly fitting since it’s sums up our heart for you all. We’ll keep right on writing to encourage you over at Grace for Moms. We hope you’ll join us there.}
