Monthly Household Zone Cleaning {free printable plan}

2 Jan

Household Zone Cleaning

I absolutely hate cleaning. I hate it so much I work extra hours at my job so I can afford to pay someone else to clean my house. I’m not sure what it is because I enjoy a clean and organized space. I just feel like a hamster running ragged on his never-going-anywhere wheel when I clean and clean only to have to do it over again a few days later. So I avoid it whenever possible.

But the truth is. . .I can’t avoid it forever. And even if I have someone clean my house once a month, I still have to keep it clean in between and deep clean it every now and then. This is where I really shut down. Because the idea of thoroughly cleaning and reorganizing my whole house makes me twitch. There’s just no way.

Unless. . .

This year my husband and I have decided to attack the house together, one room at a time. We’re adopting a monthly household zone cleaning plan for 2015 and I want to invite you to join me.

Here’s the plan:

Monthly Household Zone Cleaning

  • Choose one room/zone per month.
  • Tackle it completely from floor to ceiling throughout the month or choose one weekend to get it all done.
  • Deep clean, purge and reorganize the room until it feels like we just moved in!
  • With the focus of only one zone at a time, we won’t be paralyzed by the daunting task of getting it all done at once.

I’ve made our schedule and created a room by room checklist that we’ll follow for each zone. My hope is to enter each new month this year feeling more and more clean and organized than the month before. By the end of the year we’ll be living large in a spotless, organized haven of rest {ok, maybe it won’t feel that good, after all, we still live here}.

There are many more organized, type-a home managers that do this type of thing daily. I’ve tried and that method simply doesn’t work for me. So this year, I’ll laying down my guilt and I’m trying a strategy that I think will be successful for our family. I’ll continue to have someone come and clean once a month and I’ll still do regular {ahem, minimal} cleaning in between. But this simple, manageable plan is our way of making our home feel well tended.
