I find I anticipate October like a child anticipates Christmas morning ever since we began participating in the 31 Days Writing series with The Nester. This year, as we continue to hear from God on what he wants for the community at Grace for Moms, we will be sharing what we are most passionate about. Family faith-building.
We’ve offered resources to help you start conversations of faith in your homes through Advent, Lent and The Fruit of the Spirit. We’ll continue to develop those guides for you this next year along with many others because we want to empower parents to share faith with their children as they guide them along their journey with Jesus. We want to help families establish a culture of conversation in their homes where no topic is off limits and all discussions are fueled by grace.
This month our writers are digging deep with their words to help parents lead conversations about foundational faith topics. Bookmark this page and check back often for links to each post {below, the first link will be live on 10/3}. We pray this series ministers to you and your family as you grow in faith.
A little bit about our approach before we get started. Keep this acronym in mind when approaching conversations with your children. No matter how young or old they are, you are planting seeds that will grow into faith every time you talk openly with your children about an important faith topic.
Key Concepts for Starting Conversations of Faith in Your Home
T – Tell the story
R – Remind your child of their place in it
U – Uncover big ideas that apply to their life
T – Take action by modeling and showing them how to model
H – Hide it in their heart through involvement and ongoing discussion
Remember. . .
- Faith-building is a process, a part of your child’s overall spiritual journey.
- Even when it seems like they are not getting it or are too young, keep at it. You are planting seeds that will grow into faith.
- You are a part of the process, but others will come along and build on top of the foundation you are laying. Lay a strong foundation.
- As the heart of the home, you may lead this process but as the head of your home, your husband should be involved as much as possible.
- The process is as much about you as it is about them.
- Don’t be afraid to say, “I don’t know. Let’s pray about that.”

And if you have a tween/teen in your family, these tips on successful faith talks will be so helpful!
Be blessed!
