We all need a little inspiration every now and then to get ourselves and our kiddos out of the mid-summer rut. If you are tired of hearing, “I’m bored” or you are tempted to say it yourself, try these eleven simple ways to freshen up your summer:
1. Try a new recipe every week. Use fresh, seasonal ingredients. Involve the kids in choosing what to make, what to use and prepping your meal.
2. Decide to enjoy the extra time with your kids instead of allowing the lack of structure to stress you out.
3. Master an outdoor family game. Some of our favorites right now: Corn Hole, Washers, Croquet.
4. Watch a movie on the side of your house. Invite the neighbors. Invest in an outdoor projector or borrow one from a friend.
5. Explore your state. Plan a few day trips to small towns or big cities near you.
6. Camp out in your backyard with your family. Too hot outside? Camp out in the living room!
7. Read a book, just for fun. Start with a classic. You may find one you love in this charming box set.
8. Practice social graces. Send a hand-written note to loved ones. Surprise a long distance friend with a thoughtful gift. Keep it simple and meaningful.
9. Learn photography. I’ve been wanting to take a class for a while now but haven’t found the extra time or money. I’m going to be using this incredible ebook deal with 18+ books and courses to get me started.
10. Get in touch with a long lost friend. Someone you used to spend summers with. Use Facebook or another form of social media to seek them out.
11. Begin to write your life story. Start with the beginning and write a little at a time to record your favorite family memories. Use a book of prompts to get you started. {I have and love the book in this link!}

We could all probably use a summer pick me up right about now. So let’s try something new this week and see where it takes us. We might just discover a new love or hobby that will carry us through to fall.
