We all come handmade by our Creator with beautiful uniqueness. Four decades of life in my own skin and I’m just now coming to accept and appreciate some of the features with which He made me. It’s taken me a long while {and a whole lot of heartache} to learn to love myself completely. I pray my kids understand just how special they are long before I ever did.
Stories and visuals are such powerful tools in helping children grasp important truths {and you know how much we love books around here}. So I’m excited to introduce you to a couple of books by a woman who is very dear to my heart. Rebecca Klar Lusk is the mother of my dear college friend. She’s been a source of warmth and joy in my life and her books offer readers the same pleasure I’ve experienced in her presence.
It’s All About Being Small and It’s All About Being Tall
are adorable tales of two very different animals and their acceptance of the differences with which they were made. A teeny, tiny mouse and a tall, slender giraffe – completely opposite in beautifully unique ways yet learning to love and appreciate their differences.

These adorable creatures learn to humbly appreciate their characteristics, not thinking of themselves as better than others, just special in their own way. I love the balance these stories teach children – to love who God made them to be but not regard themselves more highly than others. These stories teach acceptance of self and others, encouraging children to embrace unity among diverse friends, family members and classmates.
I definitely recommend these sweet books to moms who want to teach their kids about acceptance.
